Struggling through General Build Plan - TrainerRoad

I’m currently in week 5 of my TrainerRoad General Build plan.  I’ve been struggling with the General Build workouts recently and this video covers some ideas on why this may be happening.

This year’s plans do feel harder.  TrainerRoad updated their plans last year to add more training stress. These changes have added to making these workouts harder to complete.

Fatigue is a real concern if you aren’t giving your body enough time to recover.  You may need to adjusting your schedule to add proper rest. I prefer to keep two days of rest between the 75 minute and 90 minute workouts by pushing the longer ride from Saturday to Sunday.

If you are feeling that the workouts are just too difficult to complete, you can adjust the intensity of the workout mid-workout.  In the app this is really easy since its in the lower corner of the screen.  You can also raise the intensity back once you feel you’re ready.

Lacking motivation to complete those workouts may also lead to them feeling more difficult.  You may need to create a goal to help motivate yourself to complete those intervals.

Another reason you may be having trouble completing workouts is that you are close to your true FTP.  Workout are pushing you to get stronger and that means those workouts my push your comfort zones.
